Edible Escapes

To support, promote and provide education about community based, ecologically sustainable food production and distribution.

Our history

Ediblescapes was conceived on 27 February 2017, with a Memorandum of Understanding signed on 12 May 2018, and formally welcomed into Country Paradise Parklands, Nerang, on 3 May 2019 through a Sub-licence Agreement. The vision and persistence of Jorge Cantellano, supported by Cr. Peter Young, brought the project to life on a challenging site that was originally stripped of topsoil and unsuitable for growing anything beyond grass. Through innovative soil creation and plant-based fertiliser techniques, Ediblescapes transformed the land into a productive and sustainable edible landscape.

Our Motive

To foster appreciation for edible food ecology gardens and local agroecology sustainable food systems, sharing knowledge of ecological food practices and sustainable urban food research in the community.

What It Does & Why It Exists

Ediblescapes is an ecologically sustainable urban food community that researches and applies sustainable food production methods, providing education, practice, and hands-on experience in growing nutritious fruits, vegetables, and herbs. The gardens allow the community to see, taste, and share produce, with surplus food distributed to people in need, reflecting the project’s community ownership and benefit. Additionally, Ediblescapes offers opportunities to volunteer, purchase organic fertiliser, and learn environmentally friendly gardening techniques, supporting both personal and shared environmental health.
