Nerang Community Garden Association:

Nerang Community Garden Association has come a long way since the first raised gardens were built in an open paddock of the gardens new home at Country Paradise Parklands in May 2012.  It provides plots for individual members and common members’ garden areas shared and looked after by all members.

The community gardens began to thrive and the gardens were filled with vegetables, herbs and flowers.  Citrus trees were planted along the fence line.  Three water tanks were installed and a seedling house built to grow seeds.

Nerang Aquaponics Study Centre was formed and continues to provide education and information to members and the wider community.  The Council provided funding for the main shed to be built and a veranda deck was installed providing a shaded area used for meetings and social gatherings.  A tool shed was added for storage of gardening supplies.

As the gardens grew so did membership and today there are over 90 members, including social members.

Our community garden provides members with an opportunity to grow organic vegetables and fruit in our sustainable gardens.  This peaceful environment creates a friendly, welcoming setting for members and the wider community to meet and garden.

As well as tending to the gardens, working bees and fundraising, members enjoy social events like our monthly pizza night, when we use our outdoor, wood-fire pizza oven, built by Hank, one of our members.  From time to time there are other opportunities for social interaction and creating friendships.  Each Saturday morning members enjoy a shared morning tea on the veranda overlooking the beautiful gardens.

To provide another shaded area for members and visitors, members fundraised and a large timber outdoor picnic table setting was purchased and placed on a concrete slab installed by volunteer members.  A shade sail was installed above the table.

We welcome the wider community into our gardens with regular visits from Queensland Rec & Sport and CPL, another on-site community group.

We have recently installed a concrete path from the main gates to the veranda deck.  This, together with the concrete path around Aquaponics ensures there is access for all abilities to our gardens.

Nerang Community Garden provides an opportunity for like-minded people to get together to share their knowledge about plants, often sharing their produce in a welcoming environment.
